SubQuery’s and Farcaster Frames: AI Meets Onchain Data

Farcaster is a decentralised social media protocol built with a focus on interoperability, user autonomy, and privacy. It was founded by Coinbase alums Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan in 2020 and built on Optimism. Check out our recent blog post about Farcaster to understand why everyone is so hyped about its potential.

Farcaster recently launched a new feature called Frames which has sparked a wave of enthusiasm within the web3 builder community. Frames can turn any cast (you can understand it as Farcaster’s tweet or post) into an interactive application; this new feature brings more to the Farcaster ecosystem possibilities including an airdrop checker built into the cast and one-click gas-free NFT minting.

In other words, Frames can easily attract encryption developers and pave the way for more interesting encryption business formats. Knowing this, we wanted to see what developers could build with Frames on the SubQuery Network.

SubQuery and Frames

Most Frames require onchain data. For instance, an NFT mint Frame might need to verify if the connected user has already minted, while others might have token holder requirements or aim to display charts or dashboards using onchain data. This is where SubQuery comes in, providing seamless access to onchain data for over 200 networks.

Many SubQuery Projects are already published on the SubQuery Network meaning developers can leverage these resources if it meets their data needs. If a suitable SubQuery Project doesn’t exist, creating one tailored to specific requirements is a straightforward process thanks to SubQuery’s intuitive framework.

Building decentralised applications is easily done (on or off Farcaster) with the help of SubQuery’s decentralised network of Indexers, or for those who prefer a centralised service, we also run a premium enterprise-level Managed Service.

Real Frames Querying the SubQuery Network

To take the potential of Frames accessing on-chain data to the next level, we recently hosted a Farcaster Bounty to show real world examples of Frames that leverage the SubQuery Network for onchain data.

We received some excellent submissions, have a look at what the winners created with Frames:

1st Place: OxHimanshu built an NFT minter Frame. Users can mint NFTs on Base, directly from the Frame and query all their NFTs using the SubQuery Managed Service. Check it out live on Farcaster and view the source code on GitHub. This is the most advanced example which allows transaction execution and utilises a custom-developed indexer that retrieves data from off-chain sources.

2nd Place: ginesdt built a Farcaster frame which uses SubQuery Network to fetch the SQT rewards that Node Operators have claimed in the last days/hours. We believe this submission offered the best visualisations. Check out the live Frame on Farcaster or view the source code on GitHub.

3rd Place: Two teams will split the third place prize for their straightforward but effective submissions. The first is cpp-phoenix who built a Moonbeam Explorer as a Frame. They used the SubQuery Managed Service APIs to query onchain data for the Frame. Check out the live Frame on Farcaster or view the source code on GitHub.

The second team sharing third place is Near.Watch who built a Frame which queries the top 10 holders of SQT tokens. Check out the live Frame on Farcaster or view the source code on GitHub.

Well done to all the winners and thank you for all the submissions!

If you’re building a Frame with features that require access to onchain data then be sure to join our Discord or Telegram, or even DM us on Warpcast!
