SubQuery 2023 Yearly Recap

2023 was a wild year but a tough year for web3! New ecosystems launched and governments got more involved with regulating the cryptocurrency sector, but we experienced one of the coldest bear markets on record, and only now are starting to feel that we are emerging from winter.

Even with the market volatility and ongoing pessimism that persisted for most of the year, 2023 has been an amazing year of growth for SubQuery! Let’s look at this past year and our top 8 highlights.

1. SubQuery Network’s Bold Infrastructure Evolution

Having achieved breakthroughs in decentralised data indexing, we announced our next step to grow by enhancing RPC performance with the SubQuery Data Node and introducing SubQuery’s Sharded Data Nodes to make RPCs accessible to all.

This approach ensures the next level of performance increases in web3, aiming beyond data indexing to revolutionise data and infrastructure service accessibility. It completely changes the possibilities of what SubQuery can achieve, and it also arrived with a sleek new brand design!

2. SubQuery Launches into Ethereum and EVM

Another major achievement was our inaugural support for Ethereum and all other standard EVM chains. At the time of this writing, we have published example projects and guides for over 41 EVM chains, including Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Flare, Meter, Metis, Polygon, and ZkSync.

3. Announcing the SQT Public Sale Date

Your belief in our vision to ‘Decentralise The Future’ has propelled us forward, and we are sincerely grateful for each one of you. The SQT public sale isn’t just a milestone; it represents a significant step in our journey, marking the evolution of SubQuery into the decentralised future and a new era of growth and development.

We are now ready to collectively shape the future of Web3 when we launch the forthcoming Public Sale and SubQuery Network token (SQT) this coming 30th January 2024.

4. Real-Time Indexing and 2x Performance Improvements with 2.0 release

In March, our biggest release yet with the v2.0 of the SubQuery SDK brought a number of changes to the leading Web3 data indexer. This included 2x faster performance across all networks, real-time indexing of unfinalised blocks, a new testing framework, multiple RPC endpoint support, improved error logging, and more!

5. Public Access to the Kepler Network

SubQuery opened Kepler Swap without restrictions, allowing KYC-completed participants to engage as Delegators or Indexers. To meet growing demand, additional kSQT even needed to be added.

Simultaneously, Kepler Network, SubQuery’s pre-mainnet on Polygon, launched successfully. kSQTs introduction aligned with Kepler’s aim to incentivise Indexers and Delegators, propelling SubQuery’s decentralisation and fostering community engagement and participation in the SubQuery ecosystem.

6. SubQuery V3.0

SubQuery announced version 3.0 of its core SubQuery SDK. Version 3.0 added some major improvements to SubQuery that had been requested and developed in partnership with key customers in the SubQuery ecosystem.

Notably, we added project code-generation and scaffolding to allow developers to auto generate the key boilerplate for an entire SubQuery project off a single smart contract definition. We also changed the project manifest from yaml to typescript for improved type safety, more advanced settings (more on that below), and in-editor documentation to make it easier for developers.

7. SubQuery’s Sleek Website Makeover

We redesigned our main homepage to incorporate a vibrant and futuristic brand identity, ensuring an eye-catching design and user-friendly interface that facilitates effortless navigation.

Additionally, our new Professional Services page demonstrates our continuing commitment to your success, providing expert guidance in building bespoke data sources and managing infrastructure.

8. SubQuery Expanded to Stellar

One of the major highlights of the year was our expansion for Stellar and Stellar’s new Soroban smart contract network. After attending Meridian 2023, we announced this support which allowed us to offer our fast and flexible indexing service to a wide range of projects in the active Stellar ecosystem. This was a tricky integration that required us to invest a lot of time into building support within SubQuery. However, the overwhelmingly positive feedback and reception from the Stellar/Soroban community during the Meridian event made every effort truly rewarding.
