Avail Success Story: SubQuery Professional Services
SubQuery is the Universal Web3 data indexing toolkit. SubQuery enables anyone to index, transform, and query blockchain data to power their applications. In this case study article, we’ll focus on how the team at Avail leveraged SubQuery’s Professional Services to alleviate them from the burden of building Avail network indexers which can be easily accessed by their thriving community.
Introduction
Avail is a Web3 infrastructure layer that allows modular execution layers to scale and interoperate in a trust-minimised way.
Before seeking our assistance, Avail had already been leveraging SubQuery’s capabilities for a considerable period. Initially, they utilised the SubQuery SDK to construct an indexer, which served as an explorer for their blockchain and supported internal applications, including the Clash of Nodes incentivised testnet. During this time they chose to host their indexer locally and through SubQuery they gained a deeper understanding of their chain.
More recently, Avail approached us for additional support. Their goal was to develop a foundational data indexing project for the Avail DA network and then consume this data in various applications, such as wallets, explorers, dashboards, and internal applications. They had a very clear requirement and needed help to execute it in time for the Avail DA network launch.
SubQuery Professional Services
A key mission of SubQuery is to allow developers to focus on their project’s core use case and not worry about building infrastructure. The SubQuery SDK already gives developers a huge headstart on aggregating and querying blockchain data for their dApps, but we’ve taken our offering one step further. If you know the requirements of your indexer, why not put your trust in us to build it for you?
We know exactly how to build large web3 datasets that can be used to power rich data-driven applications. Avail knew their exact indexer needs, so they called upon SubQuery to build it for them.
Deliverables
In our collaboration with Avail, we’ve successfully delivered two SubQuery projects with the essential components to empower Avail developers with a solid baseline indexer.
The initial integration was to build a SubQuery project designed to index data from the Avail testnet and mainnet, adhering to the common API project standard.
The Avail SubQuery projects index:
- Operation History — Transfers and Extrinsics for Utility (main) token of the network
- Multi-asset transfers — Support for transfer history for tokens from ORML and Assets pallets
- Staking rewards — Rewards history and accumulated total rewards, supports both Staking and Parachain staking pallets
- Staking analytics — Queries for current stakes, validators statistics, and stake change history.
The Avail Turing (testnet) SubQuery Project and Avail Mainnet SubQuery Project are now being hosted on SubQuery’s enterprise-level Managed service and ready to be leveraged by the Avail community.
Outcome
The Avail network is growing at a rapid pace and it’s clear the Avail team wants to facilitate this growth by enhancing the developer experience. As a result of the work between SubQuery and Avail, the builders on Avail can now take advantage of these pre-made datasets and use them to create engaging dashboards, analytics and more. These datasets will be particularly useful for wallet projects — of which there are already many integrated with the Avail network.
“Our relationship with SubQuery predates our recent outreach for additional support. Initially, we adopted SubQuery to gain a deeper understanding of the Avail blockchain. This foundational knowledge enabled us to better utilize SubQuery’s capabilities for both internal and external applications. SubQuery then stepped up to play an even bigger role in our ecosystem growth, we’ve had an excellent experience using their services, and we’re extremely grateful to the team for being part of the Avail mission and ecosystem.”

About Avail
Avail is led by Polygon’s former co-founder Anurag Arjun and is building a unification layer to solve rollup fragmentation at scale. Avail addresses this from first principles solving blockchain scalability with Avail DA, a foundational DA layer which implements the same technology planned for Ethereum’s danksharding roadmap, including KZG Commitments and Data Availability Sampling (DAS). Avail Nexus addresses growing fragmentation concerns with permissionless interoperability, leveraging proof aggregation on Avail’s scalable DA layer. Avail’s security is then reinforced with multi-asset staking through Avail Fusion. Start your unification journey today at availproject.org
