2024 Check-In: What Have We Achieved
With each step forward we get closer to realising our vision of a robust, decentralised, and open infrastructure network for web3. In January 2024, we released the latest SubQuery Network roadmap which outlined our key priorities for the first half of the year and we a proud to say we have accomplished our planned milestones and more.
From the overwhelming response to our public token sale in early 2024, to the launch of our mainnet, we have made significant strides. We have also advanced our RPC support, with plans for even greater enhancements and democratisation on the horizon. Below we provide a detailed update on each milestone that we set out to achieve in 2024, and with so many ticked off, it leaves space for so much more to come..
Roadmap Review
We are proud to say we are right on track and below you can review an update on each milestone we laid out earlier this year.
1. Pre-Mainnet Kepler Network: ACHIEVED
We finished off the past year by completing the pre-mainnet phase of SubQuery’s growth. By onboarding customers, testing our contracts and network in a production state, and learning about the scalability of our network, we were able to launch the network with confidence. We also continually onboarded customers to the SubQuery Kepler Network in preparation for our mainnet launch so we had real data ready to be served by our live Node Operators.
The Nodle team led the charge here and had fully decentralised their data indexing in October 2023, well ahead of our schedule.
2. Public Token Sale: ACHIEVED
The team at SubQuery was blown away by your support in our $SQT Public Sale. In less than 2 hours, over $5 million worth of SQT was sold to individuals across the world. This awesome feat took place on 30 January 2024 as intended and with only minor hiccups due to overwhelming demand. More on the results of the SubQuery Public Sale.
3. Mainnet Launch: ACHIEVED
Right on schedule came our mainnet launch of the SubQuery Network on 23 February 2024. This milestone marked the culmination of rigorous development, testing, and community collaboration. The mainnet launch was a pivotal moment for us, as it brings to fruition our vision of creating a robust, decentralised and open network for web3. Our first CEX listing occurred on the very same day with Bybit Exchange as well as the token generation event — making the 23rd of February a very busy day indeed for the team at SubQuery.
4. RPC Support: ACHIEVED
In our next step to make SubQuery a core infrastructure network, and to continue to address web3 centralisation issues, SubQuery launched decentralised RPCs support in March 2024, starting with Ethereum and Base RPC endpoints. Fastforward to now, we have RPCs for 16 networks, including the first ever decentralised RPCs for Polkadot and Kusama.
Our SubQuery Network RPC Node Operators are today serving 50 million requests per day and will jump to 500 million in no time.
5. Enhanced RPCs: ACHIEVED
In Q2 2024, we delivered a beta of the SubQuery Data Node, an enhanced and heavily-forked RPC node that is perfectly optimised for querying, especially on endpoints like eth_getLog, and the ability to filter transactions in a single API call.
The Data Node is open source, allowing people to contribute, extend, or fork the implementation in any way. It supports leading layer-2s and other EVM networks initially, and we are currently working on optimising it to run on the SubQuery Network in a decentralised way.
6. Democratising RPCs: IN PROGRESS
Democratising RPCs is a massive goal for SubQuery to enable fast and scalable RPCs accessibility for everyone and solve EIP-4444. SubQuery recognises that in order to decentralised RPCs correctly, you need to be able to make running these nodes easier and more accessible to everyday users. Currently the storage is made smaller by “pruning” data, which is intentionally discarding older information while cryptographically confirming that the recent data that is valid. This works fine for writing transactions, but means that indexers and other services are unable to query old data.
SubQuery is working to extend its Data Node to support sharding, that is making each Data Node smaller by splitting up block ranges between node operators. Since SubQuery’s Data Node only runs within the boundaries of a specific block range, it does not need to constantly sync new data, allowing it to optimise further for query performance rather than validation and verification.
This is a revolutionary step forward for the RPC industry, and a potential solution to one of the great challenges facing older and larger blockchains with their state bloat size. This solution has the potential to help scale Ethereum, solve EIP-4444, and greatly support proliferation of Layer-2’s and rollups, while further democratising and decentralising the SubQuery Network.
More Achievements
Not only are tracking as planned with all our forecasted milestones, we’ve also achieved a whole lot more!
Support for 200 Blockchain Networks
In June 2024 we hit a monumental milestone by adding indexing support for our 200th network. This broad coverage has been crucial in providing developers with robust and flexible tools for building multi-chain dApps. Our indexer SDK provides support for both EVM and non-EVM, extending from Ethereum to Polkadot to Cosmos and beyond.

Improvements for Delegators and Node Operators
SubQuery rolled out new documentation and tools to help the SubQuery Network participants succeed. Amongst the new features was the addition of estimated APY and the introduction of a new notification centre.
Community and Governance Initiatives
The long-term goal of SubQuery is to put the network in the hands of its community with the Foundation providing overall guidance and governance. To this end, the Foundation has executed its first community-driven decision followed by a few others.
Hungry for More
In just over three years, SubQuery has evolved into one of the most high-performing and successful open-source decentralized infrastructure networks in the web3 space.
With current indexing support spanning 200 chains, SubQuery has established itself as a renowned brand, relied upon to deliver indexing solutions for major projects and some of the fastest-growing apps across diverse chains. By also offering high-performance RPCs, there is no need for developers to go anywhere else but the SubQuery Network to find reliable, fast and decentralised infrastructure.
But we’re not done yet...
The SubQuery Network is perfectly equipped to go even further, and we’ve got our sights set on something big.
